Larks in the parks

A series of walks developed in 2025 around south London Parks to celebrate the book South Park (stories from the southern commons) These combine history, folklore and fictional tales set in a series of South London open spaces. These celebrations of park life contain built in well being, humour and exercise and are an excellent social prescription for educational, community or works group interested in a lark in the park. 

Parks on offer include Brockwell, Kennington, Burgess, Myatt's Fields and Peckham Rye.  More will be added soon.



Costs vary depending on numbers and group involved please enquire about these.  Walks vary from 60-90 minutes.

Brockwell: Wild west heroes, mermaids, and legends of the River Effra are likely to feature and after all it’s only 24 seconds from Tulse Hill. 

Burgess : 90 minutes of exploration and entertainment around the old Surrey Canal and Burgess Park. Expects bears, giraffes and rats as well as Latin American folklore, stories of the old farm of the Britons and the world’s first literary commuter amongst other tales.


Kennington : Expect revolutionary tales, lost Rasta Temples, speaking statues and some of the men they couldn’t hang. Also a remarkable escape from death story.

Myatt's Fields : Stroll around what John Betjeman described as strangely beautiful place with tales of migration, Camnberwell, imagination and cats. Especially cats. 

Peckham Rye ​: Expect mermaids, whalebone arches, lost lidos, anti golf riots, 007 and the gay cultural renaissance in SE15. There will be ghosts, scary toymakers, River Pecks and sex in this Peckham Awry tour based around the folklore and history of south London open spaces
